ABOUT

Biography

Miss Lizel Booizen was born on 23rd January under the star sign Aquarius. This air sign is well known to harbour eccentric and unique people, just like Lizel’s art. She lives, breathes and understands art like no other.

She was born in the picturesque village of Tulbagh, nestled in between the Oubiqua and Winterhoek mountains in the Western Cape of South Africa.

Lizel lived a full and happy youth in “Land van Waveren”. At a young age, she was already fascinated by bright colours and fashion and loved watching her mother making clothes for the whole family. Lizel soon started helping her with the creations.

After raising two boys who, today, are a doctor and a mechanical engineer, Lizel knew that the time had come to once again release all the creativity that she had built up over the years. She started off by decorating small rocks and recuperated wood to make her “permaculture garden” look more attractive. Her husband, Gaetan Bovit, born in Belgium but living in South Africa since 2006, not only loved her proudly grown fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs (he is a hobby chef), but also the way she decorated the garden. Even the insects inhabiting the space were happy. Gaetan became more and more active in her art career, which was growing at a slow, but steady pace.

Achievements

Once Lizel was in the right mindset, she eagerly searched for more abstract and contemporary possibilities and quickly decided that acrylic and mixed medium would forever be a part of her life. It was at that time her “self-taught” career lifted off.

Although she started off with acrylic pouring on very tiny canvasses, Lizel soon realised that bigger was better and from then, she continuously improved on her techniques. Reading up on abstract methods and the artists that used them, she garnered more knowledge about the brushes and pallet knives. Lizel learned over time that her skills and passion leaned more towards painting and creating, although she still loves pouring.

To market and sell her art, she brushed up on her Instagram knowledge and through the platform, she very quickly sold her first art piece. She proudly added to her palmarès that she has sold works in Belgium, Namibia, South Africa and Mauritius and that she launched an exposition in Misty Mountain Wine Estate, in Stanford. She is also exposing some of her works with the world-renowned furniture brand “ Roche Bobois” in Mauritius. Lizel already participated in “Art Fusion” Dubai, which was started up by Kingsley Okpor. She also exhibited her work at Divulgarti and M.A.D.S Virtual Gallery in Italy and sold artworks in Texas.

In the years to come “ Lizel Bovit Art” will become a name to be remembered and an investment, not only in art, but also in love.
